Welcome to Vibes ! Vibes is a unique singing project in the south west that uses singing and music in a really relaxed way to have some fun, maybe build a bit of confidence and perhaps meet some new faces along the way. We'll meet just once a month for singing, african djembe drums, whacky music improvisation and perhaps some songwriting. We'll spend most of our time together singing and just enjoying making tunes together. We'll then occasionally take a sideways look at what it is about music and singing together that is just so good for us all - a really interesting thing to explore.
Music's great - we express ourselves through music, enjoy singing and meeting new people. Some great work has been done to explain why all of these things are good for us and we'll have a look at this along the way - just in a chilled way with some really fun things to do together. Community singing groups are really relaxed places where we just accept each other as we are. No worrying about what we sound like and whether we can sing or not. A place to just celebrate the power of music to bring us together and feel good.
Minehead Street Choir and Foxes Academy Drum Group Health For so many different reasons feeling good can sometimes be a bit of a challenge and from time to time we'll look at why music and singing together is such good medicine! So, apart from the singing, Vibes is a really good place to enjoy spending a bit of gentle time looking inside and finding out what really makes us tick. For some this will be just interesting and fun but for others it might be a place to build a bit of confidence.
Confidence "We look after the things we love" Confidence and a big smile on our face - anything that makes us feel good about ourselves and 'happy' (whatever that means) has to be a good thing and maybe without even knowing it we end up looking after ourselves a bit better - and have some fun along the way! I wont bore you with the details but it's a truth that we tend to only look after the things we love. And that, hopefully, includes ourselves :) Minehead Street Choir 2014
Awareness There's lots of 'mindfulness' and 'meditation' out there nowadays - stepping back from the madness of every day life and creating space to explore our thinking. Awareness is another way of thinking about some of this and we'll use singing and music from different cultures to explore some of this as well. Occasionally creating a quiet space to look inside and get a better understanding of why we think and live the way we do. Again, we'll enjoy this and not get too bogged down with the detail - we'll just let the music and the singing do the talking : )
Vibes I hope this sounds fun - a mix of singing, beautiful music and gentle reflective thinking with a bunch of like minded people. Some african drumming, good tunes to sing, some whacky music improvisation and perhaps maybe even some songs to write along the way, who knows.
